RATTLECOPY PRO 4.0 MANUAL
COPIER
"COPY" This gadget starts the copy, it also reacts on the
spacebar.
It can show 3 lines:
"Copy" will start a disk-to-disk copy AND copies the data
in RAM.
If you have a 512K or greater memory-expansion:
"Read" reads the complete source-disk in RAM without
crunching.
"Write" writes the data in RAM to the destination-disks.
Here are some times:
Src Dst Verify
1 1 2 3 4 Off On
* 0:35 0:35
* * 1:09 1:45
* * * 1:09 2:23
* * * * 1:09 3:01
* 0:34 1:09
* * 0:34 1:47
* * * 0:34 2:25
* * * * 0:34 3:03
MODE This gadget selects the copy-type:
"Rattle" will copy used tracks, and formats empty tracks.
When the copy starts, RattleCopy will search for a RattleMap.
This is an alternative BitMap that RattleCopy saves in the
gap of track 0 after a RattleCopy.
When it has found the map, it copies the used tracks.
When it didn't find the map, it scannes the disk and copies
the used tracks.
Not-used tracks are recognized when they are filled with
zero's, "DOS", "[X]COPY", or other kinds of fill-up data.
"BitMap" copies the tracks allocated in the BitMap and
formats the other tracks.
"Range" will copy all tracks from start-position till
end-position.
"Damaged" selects tracks that had Read or Verify errors during the
last copy.
"Format" cleans the disk and installs it with the selected
bootblock and the current name.
"Nibble" copies weird formats, this mode does not work with
ram-copy.
If a chosen mode can't be used, RattleCopy skips automaticly
to the closest working one: BitMap > Rattle > Nibble
VERIFY This selects if the copied tracks will be verified.
FORMAT This gadget selects the format-type:
"Off" will skip the tracks.
"Fast" formats without verify.
"Verify" formats with verify.
The tracks will be filled with $ff for good verify.
EXIT Ends the copier, and returns to CLI.
KILLSYS When you have a 512K expansion, you must select this if
you want to use "Read" and "Write".
It removes the systemroutines to free memory.
When you you have more than 1MEG, this function isn't
needed.
"TIME" This is the clock, it shows the time that you're using
RattleCopy and how long a copy takes. (Switch between times
by clicking it.)
NIBBLE Here you can set the nibble-type.
Some examples of weird formats I could copy:
(Name, Nibble-type, Time)
Atari Sync 4489 1:35
Macintosh Sync 4489 1:38
MS-DOS Index 1:45
Some examples of originals I could copy:
Battle Squadron Index 1:40
Beyond Dark Castle Sync 4489 1:41
Buffalo Bill Index 2:30
Gladiator Index 1:55
Goldrunner Index 2:15
Overlander Sync 9122 1:40
Running Man Sync 4489 1:35
Scorpion Sync 4489 1:30
Wipe Out Index 2:10
Some examples of originals I could NOT copy:
Wayne Gretzky
Zoom
A nibble-copy is always without verify !
SYNC This is the Sync that will be used with "Nibble Sync".
You can change it by clicking on the gadgets.
Sometimes "Examine BootBlocK" can give you the sync
that must be used. (Example: Overlander)
SIDE This is used for formats as "Atari" and "MS-DOS".
"MESSAGE" This is the information-gadget, errors or other important
things will be reported here.
NAME When a source is detected, this gadget shows it's name.
If not, it shows the name that will be used with formatting.
(You can change it when you click on the gadget.)
BOOT When a source is detected, this gadget shows it's boot.
If not, it shows the boot that will be used with formatting.
(You can change it when you click on the gadget.)

The "Buffer" bootblock is the current loaded & checked
bootblock.
START This is the start track and head for the copy.
END This is the end track and head for the copy.

ALL This sets the standard range.
An AmigaDOS copy skips track 80-85.
SOURCE This is the source-drive, a source-disk will be recognized
if the write-protection is on.
TARGETS These are the destination-drives, a destination-disk will be
recognized when the write-protection is off.
"TRACKMAP" Here you can set the range: Place the pointer on the
wanted start-track, press left-button AND hold it down, place
the pointer on the wanted end-track and free the left-button.
EXAMINE BOOT This lets you examine & edit the current BootBlock.
INSTALL This installs all destinations with the selected BootBlock.
RENAME This renames all destinations with the current name.
BITMAP This gadget will bring you into the magic world of
Bitmap-Editing.
BITMAP EDITOR
DRIVE This shows the selected drive, use left or right mousebutton
to select another drive.
BLOCK This shows the number of the block where you put the pointer
on.
READ This reads the BAM from the chosen drive.
WRITE This writes the BAM to the chosen drive.
ALL This sets all blocks in the BAM.
CLEAR This clears all blocks in the BAM.
UNDO This removes the last edit.
RATTLECOPY This brings you to the main menu.
"BLOCKMAP" Here you can edit the BAM, use left-button to set blocks or
right-button to clear blocks.
EXAMINE BOOTBLOCK
VIEW This selects the way the BootBlock is shown.
KILL This kills a possible startup-routine in the BootBlock
if you don't trust it.
It also works on intro's.
DECODE This searches for a text in the bootblock that is coded.
The FAST & Lamer Exterminator virus are both coded.
If you want to have a better look at them, then type
"LAME" for the Lamer Exterminator or "heft" for the
FAST virus.
Also some menu's or intro's can be found this way.
TEXT This contains the text that will be searched by the
decoder.
"EXAMINE" This will search for familiar parts of routines in the
bootblock, for example:
Drivekillers, memorykillers, load-routines, sync-words,
reset-surviving code (Virus !).
RATTLECOPY This brings you to the main menu.
